In this video, we will be discussing HBP #2: Walk, move around, and change positions throughout labor.

Movement is vital for labor! Labor is essentially a dance between your pelvis and your baby; changing positions frequently in labor changes your baby's relationship to your pelvis and to gravity, which encourages baby to descend and get into an optimal position for birth.

Changing positions can also help ease contraction pain. Forward-leaning positions, walking, swaying, and sitting on a birth ball can all help make contractions more manageable.

I always suggest changing positions every 45 minutes. It's important to remember that once an epidural is administered mom is no longer able to get out of the bed; the however, there are still position changes that mom can do within the bed. Have your nurse help you shift positions every 45 min.
