Make Your Hospital Room Beautiful
Happy World Doula Week! To celebrate I am going to be sharing a doula tip each day. Todays Doula Pro Tip: Transform your hospital room into your birthing sanctuary.
Hospitals can be intimidating places! The overhead florescent lights and beeping monitor’s can often make it hard to relax and stay in your zone. Have no fear! There are simple things you can do that can completely transform your room so that it feels like a beautiful birthing sanctuary.
Bring L.E.D candles and Twinkle lights! This is HUGE. I always pack L.E.D candles and twinkle lights in my doula bag. This gives you the ability to turn off those bright overhead lights. You would be surprised how quickly your room will look like and feel like a spa environment.
Bring a Bluetooth Speaker with you and play music. I suggest making a few different birth playlists beforehand; one with more upbeat music and one with more relaxing music. Some mom’s will even listen to birth affirmations or meditations.
Wear your own labor gown.Treat yourself! Lots of websites now sell labor gowns that you can wear at the hospital instead of the one the hospital provides. Buy one that looks comfortable and beautiful.
Bring your own pillow and blanket. Make yourself cozy momma. You’re going to be staying at least one night at the hospital and you want to be as comfortable as possible.
Your birthing environment is so important! In order for your body to open you need to feel safe and at ease; these little shifts to your space can make a big impact.
