5 Ways a Doula can Support you through Pregnancy

Phone or text check-ins after each OBGYN or midwife appointment

Our doulas want to hear from you to help you understand what was discussed during your visits. They assist in creating follow-up questions for future appointments and provide emotional support to ensure you feel heard and understood.

Your doula provides referrals and suggestions for local practitioners who work with pregnant individuals

This includes chiropractors, pelvic floor therapists, acupuncturists, prenatal yoga classes, and even therapists who specialize in pregnancy and postpartum care. Our doulas are deeply embedded in the local community equipped with a comprehensive array of resources essential for your pregnancy journey, including therapists specializing in pregnant individuals and postpartum support.

Prenatal Meeting 1

Typically scheduled between 26 to 32 weeks of pregnancy and lasting approximately 1-2 hours, this meeting offers an opportunity for our doula to check in with you, assess your overall well-being, discuss recent doctor appointments, confirm your registration for any desired classes we offer, connect with your partner to clarify the role of doula support and establish effective collaboration, and outline the next steps and points of contact.

Prenatal Meeting 2

The birth planning meeting typically takes place around 36 weeks into the pregnancy and usually lasts for about 1-2 hours. During this session, the primary focus is on reviewing the birth plan. It's crucial for doulas to thoroughly discuss the birth planning workbook with you and address any questions or concerns you may have. This might involve discussing classes attended, hospital preferences, or what essentials to pack in the hospital bag.

Childbirth Education

Childbirth education is highly important as it equips expectant parents with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the labor and delivery process confidently. By understanding various birthing options, pain management techniques, and potential interventions, parents can make informed decisions that align with their preferences and values.

At Philomena Birth, our goal is to empower you throughout pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum by offering support and education, while connecting you to your own intuition as a mother.

We believe that doula support should begin during pregnancy. Establishing a solid foundation of childbirth education and building a strong relationship with your doula team during this time empowers you to trust your intuition in the labor room and have confidence in the team around you. Our goal is to make pregnancy support a significant part of what we offer.
