SHOULD I CHANGE DOCS/MIDWIVES?

Deciding whether to change your doctor or midwife is a deeply personal and often challenging decision. It’s one that many people hesitate to make, especially as they get closer to their due date. But here’s the thing: your care provider plays a crucial role in your birth experience. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth paying attention to that instinct.

You might be thinking, “But it’s so late in the game! Isn’t it too late to switch?” Let me reassure you: it’s never too late to find a provider who truly listens to you, respects your wishes, and makes you feel safe and supported. In fact, making that change, even at 36 weeks, can be one of the best decisions you make for your birth experience.

The relationship you have with your care provider should be built on trust and open communication. If you’re finding that your concerns aren’t being addressed or your preferences are being dismissed, that’s a big red flag. Birth is not something you should have to fight through; it should be a collaborative, respectful process.

Remember, the birth environment matters just as much as who’s with you during labor. Each hospital, birth center, or home birth setting has its own culture and norms. Some places are more flexible and open to different approaches, while others are more rigid. If your current provider or birth setting isn’t aligning with your needs and values, it might be time to consider your options.

Don’t underestimate the importance of feeling heard and valued. Your birth experience is yours, and you deserve a team that honors that. If switching providers means you feel more confident and at ease, then that’s the right choice for you. And trust me, there are providers out there who will give you the care you need, even if it means making a change late in your pregnancy.
